I was thankful that I was asked to stay at SMU for an additional term after I completed my degree and internship, but I knew I’d still need to undergo a job search for a permanent position. While I was unable to stay at SMU as an instruction librarian, I found another instruction position nearby, at Texas Woman’s University.

While their main campus is in Denton (an hour away), I’ll be working at the T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences, close to the UT Southwestern campus here in Dallas. My job as a Health Sciences Librarian directly ties to much of my marketing experience — my subject areas are physical and occupational therapy, and I’ll be working with students and faculty in those areas.

While starting a new job is always a challenge, I’m excited to begin a new chapter in my career, particularly one that ties so well to both my library and marketing backgrounds. And to work at a university whose purpose is to “educate a woman [and] empower the world” speaks directly to my leadership experience with the Griffiths Leadership Society at Mizzou. All in all, I couldn’t find a better fit for my first professional position. Go Pioneers!
